International Peace Gardens, ND/Manitoba

From Dad

We drove from Minot to the International Peace Gardens on the North Dakota-Manitoba border this morning. It was much larger than I anticipated. There was a central garden at least a half mile in length, with a small stream (more like a fountain stream) running through it. The stream is the border between the US and Canada. I stood in the stream with one foot in the US and the other in Canada. There are also two or three markers along the border which give photo ops to do the same thing.

There are also driving loops around lakes and forest in the greater park area, 3-5 miles each, one on the Canadian Side and one on the US Side. Like I said, a big park.

We decided to go up into Manitoba and drive east for a couple hundred or so kilometers (after all, we have to use Canadian measurements. We switched the car’s odometer over to metric so we didn’t have to do the math on speed limits. So Linda was driving along at 100 to 110 most of the time. We crossed back into the United States at the North Dakota-Minnesota border, and drove to Thief River Falls, MN. Found a laundromat to do our clothes, had a late dinner (10:00) and finally went to bed around midnight.
